A Day for Love and Memories

In our house, we love to celebrate things.  So holidays are popular here.  Today is February 14th, which we obviously recognize as Valentines Day (how could the drug store seasonal aisles let us forget?!) but also as a few other things.  Valentines Day happened to be the first day that Kane and I ever kissed.  (Shaelyn and Davia made gagging noises when I told them that, and apparently they “don’t need to hear that.”)  This day is also the birthday of the wonderful Justin Fairchild, a beloved member of our extended family.  (Happy B/V-Day, Justin!)

And February 14th is also a birthday of another loved one, the late and lovely Juneau.  A Bernese Mountain Dog with a heart of gold who was born on Valentines Day in 2003, had the good fortune of spending his life with Jan and Michael Brassington, and passed away last year.  As today was approaching, our Davia had the sweet idea of baking dog biscuits to donate to a local animal shelter in Juneau’s honor.  So we did.  These photos feature moments from today’s celebration of a dear friend and an awesome dog, who lives on in our hearts.

Our recipe:

Mix together…

• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
• 1/2 cup peanut butter
• 3 eggs
• 1/2 cup rolled oats
• 1 teaspoon of baking powder
• some splashes of water

Mash it up, roll it out, cut it up, and bake on a cookie sheet at 375 degrees (F) for 25 minutes.  Then bon appetit!

And then we delivered our creations to a local animal shelter.
