About Our Mountain

Mountain?  What mountain?  Let me explain…

I’ll start by saying that it’s kind of hard to choose a blog title.

Next, some background:  Kane and Kate were married (in what we humbly refer to as “the best wedding ever”) on September 25th, 2010.  Hey, that’s almost exactly one year ago as I type this!  Anyway, the year that followed that happy day was quite a roller coaster.  Our move to Australia, the girls’ and Kate’s early return, a long separation, various health problems and numerous other crises put our strength as a family to the test.  Meanwhile, a tiny baby growing inside Kate served as a reminder that life goes on and that our future awaits, open and full of possibilities.

On the first day of September, 2011, Kane returned to his family who had been waiting for him for 99 days in California.  He had a new job lined up working for a film studio in Portland, OR.  With Shaelyn and Davia due to start second grade, and Kate in the final stretch of her pregnancy, this may have been a crazy time to move to a new city in a new state.  But crazy never stopped us before!  And in many ways, the opportunity seemed too good to pass up.  So with open minds and hopeful hearts, we’ve jumped – yet again – into the great unknown.  As this journey is taking us farther away from many loved ones, we’re creating this blog to keep you all updated on how it goes.

On our way up to Oregon, we stopped to gather belongings and spend the night in Chico.  Lauren, Justin and Rosalind housed us for the night, fed us, helped us with moving stuff and kept us smiling.  After dinner, as we all sat around chatting and resting in the living room, Rosalind brought out a gift they had chosen for Shaelyn and Davia.  It was a book – Oh The Places You’ll Go, by Dr. Seuss.  Justin read it aloud to everyone.  Kate maybe a got a little teary.  Have you read that book?  It’s fantastic!  A worthwhile read for just about anyone, at any stage of life, it is especially fitting for our family right now.

Anyway, this blog was named after a line in Oh The Places You’ll Go, and we’re carrying the spirit of that book with us as we move forward into this next set of adventures of ours.  We’re thinking of you all often, and we hope this blog can be a way of bringing you on our journey with us.  Thanks for reading!
